Review of “The Spirit of Smiling” by Swami Atmavidyananda Giri

The Spirit of Smiling: Perfecting the Art of Surrendering to The Way is a beautiful, inspiring guidebook in which author Gary Giamboi takes us step by step to a journey towards enlightenment.

The relevant anecdotes and logical explanations on truth blended with profound teachings make it easy and useful for a sincere seeker on the path of truth. An analytical approach covering many aspects of life in defining the obstacles and simple solutions to reach the highest goal makes the book more appealing.

The chapter on free will gives a clear understanding of choice a human being is gifted with by God in the following concept:
“As long as we are pursuing something we desire to make ourselves happy, we are not using our free will.”
“It is in our human nature to want pleasure and avoid pain. Choosing actions which achieve these ends is like water flowing downhill. By using free will to rise above our human nature and acting like a being on a higher plane, we are actually working on giving up our free will and assuming the nature of a being on a higher plane.”

Finally, the author has put the essence of the book in this quote: “Our life’s true and only purpose is to regain control of our true selves. And like it or not, change is the only way to do it.”

I am sure this book will help the readers to clarify their doubts and bring new inspiration in their lives.
